Columbia County, FL (August 2, 2018) – On Wednesday, a Fort White man lost his life in a rear-end crash in Columbia County. The man struck the back of a vehicle and truck that were slowing as they passed road construction. The Florida Highway Patrol was quickly called to the scene.
Police at the scene identified the man who lost his life as 64-year-old Steven Butler. The crash occurred on U.S. 441 at County Road 18 around 8:45 in the morning.
Police say that Butler was driving his F-150 north and struck two vehicles being driven by 41-year-old Kelly Danaher and 57-year-old Jesse Carlton Bennett.
At the time of the collision, Butler did not see that both Danaher and Bennett were reducing their speed in anticipation of the construction. He then collided with the back of Danaher’s vehicle. Danaher’s car was pushed off of the road, and Butler continued onward until he struck the back of the truck as well.
Both Danaher and Bennett sustained minor injuries due to the crash.
