Daytona Beach, FL (August 25, 2018) – A body was discovered lying in a Daytona Beach roadway following a Saturday morning hit-and-run. The Daytona Beach Police Department responded to a call regarding a body in the roadway at North Nova Road around 2:30 am. When police arrived, they found a man on the road. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers discovered a vehicle part next to the man’s body, leading them to believe that he was the victim of a hit-and-run. Police are now searching for a Honda with front windshield damage which they believe to be the suspect vehicle in this incident.
The victim has not been identified pending notification of his next of kin. Anyone with any information on this crash is asked to call Daytona Beach Police at 386-671-5319.
Pedestrian crashes kill two people per day in Florida. By law, drivers are required to remain on the scene following a car accident. In an accident involving injury, it can be considered a felony to leave a crash scene before police arrive.
The hit-and-run driver, in this case, faces both civil and criminal responsibility when they are apprehended. The family of the deceased man may also choose to bring a wrongful death claim against the driver when they are apprehended. In Florida, a wrongful death claim can be filed when someone else’s negligence causes a death.
Our condolences are with the victim’s family in this senseless tragedy.
