Daytona Beach, FL (April 2, 2020) - A woman and a 7-year-old girl were killed when their car was struck on Wednesday night in Daytona, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say that an officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on 33-year-old Nelson Reed. Reed fled from police, however, and continued traveling at a high rate of speed before colliding with a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Kanadei Benjamin. Benjamin's niece, 7-year-old Zoe Chi, was also in the vehicle. Sadly, both Benjamin and Chi were killed as a result of the crash, according to Lt. Kim Montes with the Florida Highway Patrol.
An investigation is still ongoing and there are charges pending against Reed.
The loss of loved ones in a Florida car accident is an extremely devastating and heartbreaking experience. When a driver's negligence, carelessness, or criminal behavior causes the crash, these feelings are magnified even greater. Unfortunately, these types of crashes take place daily in our state due to motorists who fail to exercise proper care and caution for everyone else on the roadway.
We wish to extend our condolences to the families and friends affected by this tragic incident in Daytona Beach.
