Escambia County, FL (September 27, 2018) – A 28-year-old man has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter after causing a collision that killed two people in Ensley early on Thursday morning, September 27. The crash took place at around 2:50 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Jaime Ty Hamrick of Pensacola was reported to have been driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI charge at the time of the accident.
The FHP stated that Hamrick was traveling south on North Palafox Street at Sherman Street just before the accident. Hamrick’s Honda Civic continued to veer off the road before slamming into a ditch. The impact of the collision with the ditch sent the vehicle airborne, at which point it struck a fence and rolled over into a tree.
25-year-old La’Phontae DeWayne Lewis and 32-year-old Antion Wade Lindsay were both ejected from the vehicle after impact. Both Lewis and Lindsay were tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Hamrick was unharmed during the crash.
Hamrick had been arrested just five days earlier on an unrelated DUI charge and was currently out on a $1,000 bond. No further information has been provided at this time.
