Escambia County, FL (June 30, 2018) – A deputy received minor injuries in an accident, and another driver was cited. The Olive Road accident took place in Escambia County this morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol investigated and found that Deputy Bambi Sellars was driving eastbound when the accident occurred. He was on Olive Road at Crystal Wells Place with lights and sirens activated inside an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The accident took place around 6:20 a.m.
Sellars attempted to pass a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Dorianne Dewitte of Pensacola. Dewitte did not yield, however, which caused a left turn in front of the deputy. The deputy’s vehicle swerved and left the roadway, which caused it to collide with a utility pole, fence, and pillar.
Sellars was immediately taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital by Escambia County EMS. Dewitte did not receive injuries. He was, however, cited by the FHP for failing to yield while making a left turn.
