Escambia County, FL (August 29, 2018) - An on-duty deputy with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office suffered injuries following a collision with another vehicle on Tuesday.
32-year-old Jerome Zaid was driving his patrol vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, southbound on Highway 29. As Zaid proceeded in his lane of travel, a 2014 Chevrolet driven by 79-year-old Rose Coval turned into the path of Zaid's vehicle. Coval was turning onto Highway 29 from Well Line Road. She collided with Zaid near the intersection.
Zaid sustained injuries in the crash and was transported by EMS to Sacred Heart Hospital. Neither Coval nor her 17-year-old passenger were hurt in the collision.
Coval received a citation for failing to yield the right of way.
This seems to be a straightforward case of negligence against Rose Coval. All drivers have a duty to yield the right of way to other vehicles. When this does not happen and a crash occurs, the driver's negligence can form the basis of a Florida personal injury claim. Personal injury claims also arise in the case of reckless driving, impaired driving, distracted driving and speeding among other. Jerome Zaid will be entitled to compensation for his injuries, including payment of his medical bills and lost wages stemming from this crash.
