Flagler County, FL (September 5, 2018) - Three people are in the hospital following a crash in Flager County on Tuesday afternoon. The crash took place at the intersection of US 1 and Old Dixie Highway and involved two vehicles. Police say that the accident occurred around 5:00 pm when a woman in a Ford SUV was traveling north on US 1. Another woman in a Buick SUV was turning out onto US 1 from Old Dixie Highway. The Buick pulled in front of the Ford and the Ford slammed into the Buick's rear dear area.
The Buick driver was transported to Halifax Hospital along with a passenger. The Ford driver was transported to Florida Hospital Flager. None of those involved suffered life-threatening injuries. Heavy damage occurred to both vehicles with airbag deployment.
Traffic was diverted in the area as officials worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol subsequently assumed control of the investigation. There are no further details available at this time.
In this crash, the driver of the Buick apparently failed to yield to the Ford, which was already in the roadway at the time. Failing to yield is a major cause of traffic collisions in Florida. The consequences of a failure to yield can be catastrophic depending on several factors, including the location of the crash and speed of the vehicles involved. As of now, it appears that the driver of the Ford could potentially bring an injury claim against the Buick driver as a result of negligence.
