Fort White, FL (April 1, 2019) - An 80-year-old man from McAlpin died in a two-car crash after a driver ran a stop sign. The crash took place on Friday, March 29th, at the intersection of SW County Road 18 and US Highway 27.
Around 2:40 p.m., 24-year-old Christine Weddle was heading westbound on CR 18 when she arrived at the intersection. She failed to stop at a stop sign and her Ford Focus collided with the front driver's side of a Toyota Camry traveling northbound on US-27. The Camry was operated by 71-year-old Hugh Hays. A passenger in Hays' car, 80-year-old William Kirkwood, died from injuries sustained in the collision. Hays was taken to UF Health Shands in Gainesville with serious injuries.
Charges are pending against Weddle at this time but it is unclear what caused her to run the stop sign.
