Hernando County, FL (September 27, 2018) – A woman from Spring Hill has been hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Wednesday, September 26, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The collision that transpired at the intersection of Hunter’s Point Street and Oak Chase Boulevard was reported to have occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m.
FHP troopers stated that the unknown driver had been traveling north on Oak Chase Boulevard when they made a right turn onto Hunter’s Point Street. The driver of that vehicle then struck 66-year-old Antonia R. Tirado, of Spring Hill. Tirado was immediately transported to the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point.
Unfortunately, Tirado has been listed in critical condition at this time. The driver of the vehicle was reported to have fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim or cooperate with authorities. Evidence left at the scene of the crash has troopers believing that the vehicle in question was large and could possibly be a truck.
Negligent drivers were responsible for injuring nearly 10,000 pedestrians last year. While not all Florida pedestrian accidents are the fault of the driver involved, pedestrian accidents typically result in very serious injuries if not death for the pedestrian
