Hillsborough County, FL (March 1, 2019) - A woman from Wimauma, whose name is being withheld at this time, was hurt in a two-car crash on I-75 on Wednesday, February 27th, just before 9:00 a.m.
The woman was operating a 2015 Nissan Versa in the southbound lanes of the highway when she stopped for traffic in front of her. At the same time, 47-year-old Richard Hulton was operating a 2005 Ford F-250, also in the southbound lanes, directly behind the Nissan. Hulton failed to recognize that traffic had stopped in front of her and slammed into the back of the Nissan, causing it to collide with the three vehicles in front of it in a chain-reaction style crash.
The Nissan driver was taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition. Charges are pending, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
This year, about 250,000 crashes involving injury will be reported in Florida. A number of these crashes will take place on highways and will involve high-speed collisions between multiple motor vehicles. In these situations, it is natural to expect that the resulting injuries will be significant. In this case, we see how a driver's inattention can cause serious consequences for those around them. Our condolences are with the victim and her family, and we hope for her full recovery.
