Imokalee, FL (January 3, 2019) - A motorcyclist riding in the Alligator Alley area was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Tuesday, January 1st. The accident took place on I-75 in Collier County.
According to reports, the motorcyclist was riding behind a Toyota Sienna when the Sienna slowed down in front of him. The rider failed to slow in time and crashed into the back of the Sienna. A Honda CR-V traveling behind the motorcycle then slammed into the back of the bike. The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to those injuries. The driver of the Toyota and three passengers suffered minor injuries while the occupants of the Honda escaped unscathed. None of those involved were identified.
An investigation remains ongoing.
Approximately 14% of all traffic-related deaths involve motorcycles. This is an astounding number when considering that just 3% of all registered motor vehicles are motorcycles. Clearly, riding a motorcycle carries a great risk of death or serious bodily injury in the event of a crash.
Motorcycle riders should always exercise caution and ensure that they are complying with all rules of the road. However, accidents will inevitably occur, even if a motorcycle rider complies with all laws and safety precautions. This crash is an example of a tragedy occurring due to the negligence of another driver.
