Indian River County, FL (September 7, 2018) - The driver sought by police in a deadly hit-and-run last Saturday has been located. The Florida Highway Patrol had been searching since last Saturday to find the person responsible for hitting and killing 30 year old Jessica Joy-Dees Feuerstein. Feuerstein was running on the north side of 12th Street near 58th Avenue around 4:00 on Saturday morning when she was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle then fled the scene before police could arrive. Feuerstein died from injuries sustained in the impact.
A wheel fender recovered at the scene led officers to believe that they were searching for a Jeep Wrangler. This week, police reviewed surveillance footage that captured the crash and narrowed their search. On Friday, authorities discovered a white 2013 Wrangler parked in a garage a short distance away from the where the crash occurred. The vehicle had front end damage consistent with being involved in a hit-and-run crash.
The vehicle was seized to be used as evidence. The vehicle owner was interviewed by police and a search warrant was sought for the home. At this time, officers have not released the name of the suspect as the investigation moves forward.
The driver in this accident chose to break the law by fleeing after the collision. Leaving the scene of an accident is never a good choice. Not only does the driver face civil liability for potential negligence in striking a pedestrian, they also face serious criminal penalties for fleeing the scene of an injury crash.
