Indian Rocks Beach, FL (June 29, 2019) - A crash in Pinellas County left a 17-year-old dead on Friday, June 28th. The incident took place on Indian Rocks Causeway Bridge around 10:30 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. Following an investigation, troopers were able to determine that 69-year-old Neil Singhal was traveling westbound on the Causeway Bridge when his car swerved into the bicycle lane and struck 17-year-old Sophie Delott. Delott was thrown from her bicycle. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Troopers conducted field sobriety tests on Singhal, believing that he was under the influence of an impairing substance. Following the tests, he was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter.
We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Sophie Delott. Impaired drivers continue to be a major source of serious and fatal accidents that occur in Florida every year. Drivers who choose to drive while under the influence will place everyone else on the roadway at risk of great bodily harm due to their negligent and irresponsible actions. In this crash, it appears as though Neil Singhal will be held legally responsible for the death of Sophie Delott.
