Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Officials say that Irin Bennett was traveling eastbound on Heckscher Drive in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck around 8:30 am. Bennett's truck suddenly traveled into the westbound lane and collided with a GMC SUV traveling in the opposite direction. The GMC had two occupants at the time of the crash, a woman and her 1-year-old daughter.
Bennett suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. The baby was not hurt, but the woman driving the SUV suffered serious injuries. She was taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment.
