Jacksonville, FL (March 29, 2019) - A tragic chain reaction crash resulted in the deaths of two people on Thursday, March 28th. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-295 around 10:40 p.m.
Investigators say that 34-year-old Emmanuel Luis Carmona was riding a Suzuki motorcycle when he collided with the back of a semi-truck. Carmona died at the site of the accident. Just after the first crash, 29-year-old Thomas Evans stopped on-scene to help. As Evans was assisting the victim, he was struck by a Toyota Camry. The Camry driver attempted to avoid the trailer and Carmona's motorcycle when Evans was hit. Evans later died from his injuries.
Troopers are still investigating and there is no word on any charges at this time.
On average, Florida sees a fatal crash about once every three hours. Driving is a dangerous activity and even routine driving maneuvers can turn deadly on a moment's notice if drivers are not careful. While it remains to be seen who is ultimately responsible for this crash, it appears as though at least one innocent person tragically lost their life. Our condolences are with those affected by the accident.
