Jacksonville, FL (August 31, 2018) - The tragic mass shooting that occurred Sunday at Jacksonville Landing has already sparked a lawsuit from one of the victims.
23 year old Jacob Mitich filed suit Thursday. Mitich is a college student from Maryland who was attending the Madden gaming tournament at the Landing when the shots rang out. Mitich was struck in the leg and hospitalized before being released on Monday.
Mitich alleges, among other things, that the event organizers failed to provide adequate security and that the failure to do so caused the gunman to open fire, killing two and injuring several others. There is no word on the amount of damages sought by Mitich.
Negligent security cases arise in Florida when there is an alleged failure of an entity or event promoter to follow accepted and reasonable security protocol. At any large scale event which is attended by the general public, there is an obligation on behalf of the host to provide sufficient security to ensure that tragedies such as this one do not occur.
At this time, there are very few details provided as to the level of security in place at the Madden tournament. Additional investigation will be needed to uncover the facts which could lead to liability for negligent security.
