Jacksonville, FL (December 31, 2018) - A hit-and-run took place in Jacksonville on Sunday, December 30th and police are now searching for a suspect.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Brian Hodges, Jr. was traveling westbound on J. Turner Butler Boulevard when his vehicle collided with a brown Ford F-150. The F-150 merged into Hodges' lane and caused the crash. Hodges then lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier, causing the car to overturn. Hodges sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
The F-150 driver fled the scene after the crash before police could arrive. The truck was seen traveling westbound towards Gate Parkway. Officers are looking for the hit-and-run vehicle as this crash is under investigation.
According to statistics, there were about 98,000 hit-and-run crashes reported in Florida in 2017. That number accounts for about 25% of all traffic crashes reported in our state. While this number may seem alarming, it is, unfortunately, a fairly common occurrence for drivers to leave the scene of a crash that they have caused.
