Jay, FL (October 31, 2018) - An accident at a peanut processing facility led to a fatality on Tuesday, October 30th.
A man, identified as Craig Sullivan from Atmore, was working at the facility on State Street unloading peanuts out of a semi-truck. As Sullivan finished unloading the peanuts, the driver of the semi received a message to pull forward. The driver, identified as Anthony Mincey, pulled forward in response to the instruction. Sullivan was still under the truck at the time, however. The truck ran over the Sullivan. He was rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and is in the process of determining whether to file charges.
This is certainly a tragic incident that seems to have been avoidable. Although we do not have all the details at this time, it appears as though either the truck driver or the individual giving the commands should have been aware that Craig Sullivan was still in the path of the truck before the truck was moved. The Florida Highway Patrol investigation will undoubtedly provide additional answers. Our thoughts are with the family of Craig Sullivan during this difficult time.
