Jefferson County, FL (June 24, 2018) – In Jefferson County, a man suffered minor injuries in an accident involving two semi-trucks. 44-year-old Loyd Hicks of Mississippi has now been charged with careless driving by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Hicks was traveling eastbound in the left lane at the time, with another semi-truck driving in the right lane. Hicks was passing a vehicle when he looked in the mirror to see if the roadway was clear before merging into the right lane. When he did so, he didn’t realize how close he was to the other semi-truck. He also didn’t take notice to the differences in speed.
Hicks attempted to avoid a collision but he ended up running into the back of the truck. Hick’s semi-truck then crossed the centerline and onto a grass median before it overturned on its side. Hicks suffered minor injuries. The driver in the other truck was not injured.
Both truck drivers had seatbelts on at the time. Alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
Over 250,000 people were injured on Florida roads throughout the 2017 year. 120 crashes make up truck accidents every single day in Florida.
