Yesterday, a man from Clearwater was cited in an accident when he and a Pinellas deputy were involved in an accident with one another. As a result of the accident, 52-year-old Deputy Rick Serra Jr. suffered minor injuries.
The crash took place around 8:55 p.m. when Serra was on duty and traveling southbound on the roadway in a marked Chevy Tahoe. 31-year-old Jeronimo Panzo Herrera was driving southbound directly behind the officer.
Serra noticed a disabled vehicle on the roadway and slowed to a stop so that he could go offer help. Herrera failed to stop and struck Serra in the bumper.
Only the deputy was injured in the crash.
As a result, Herrera was cited for careless driving and driving without a valid driver’s license.
