Every year, many pedestrians are injured or – even worse, killed – in accidents involving a hit-and-run driver. These drivers flee the scene for a variety of reasons and make it very difficult to recover from your injuries during a difficult time. As many people suffer physically, emotionally, and financially, police work to locate drivers.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a woman in a wheelchair with a 9-month-old baby in her arms and then fled the scene. The incident took place when 45-year-old Philip Martinez was pushing a wheelchair carrying a 25-year-old named Katharina Martinez. She was holding her 9-month-old baby at the time while they were walking along the shoulder of Bonita Road.
The vehicle driver then fled the scene. The three pedestrians were injured and airlifted for their injuries in Tampa. They were all treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses say that the driver was in a Lincoln Navigator at the time, and police know the license plate number. They found the vehicle abandoned in a parking lot this morning at a breakfast station and seized it as evidence, though the driver has not yet been found.
