57-year-old Kerry Lee Milich was critically injured in a crash that occurred near the Belle Terre Parkway. A witness says that the light turned green just as Milich was crossing the road and violated the traffic’s right of way. In doing so, a red pick-up truck struck him and he suffered from many broken bones and other injuries. At the time, the driver fled the scene.
The driver was identified as 61-year-old Michael Darryl Bailey, a resident of Zeolite Place, who was driving drunk at the time. Bailey originally got out of his vehicle and crossed the intersection, putting the bicycle on the shoulder of the road. The moment he heard police sirens, he got into his vehicle and fled the scene.
He then returned to the scene and the police noticed that he was showing signs of impairment. His blood alcohol was 0.101, over the legal limit. He became the second arrest of an alleged hit-and-run driver in the last six weeks in Florida.
