Lake County, FL (April 4, 2019) - Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fiery, five-vehicle crash along State Road 44 on Thursday, April 4th. The crash took place just after 6:00 a.m.
According to reports, 29-year-old Carlos Aguiar was driving a Ford Ranger truck in the eastbound lanes of SR 44 when his truck veered into the westbound lanes for an unknown reason. Aguiar's truck collided with another pickup before hitting a Chevy truck head-on. Two other vehicles also became involved in the chain reaction crash. Aguiar and another driver were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Two others were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
SR 44 was closed for several hours while troopers worked at the scene. Charges are pending against Aguiar at this time.
There will be about 250,000 injury accidents reported in Florida this year alone. Many of these accidents will be preventable and will take place due to the negligence of at least one party involved in the accident. In this crash, it appears as though Carlos Aguiar was negligent when he drifted into the opposite travel lane. A thorough investigation will reveal the cause of the crash.
