Lakeland, FL (May 29, 2021) - A 28-year-old man from Center Hill was killed in a multi-car crash that took place on Friday morning in Lakeland. The collision was reported just after 7:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 98 near Lakeland Acres Road.
Police say that Aaron Michael Russ was traveling southbound on U.S. 98 when he veered into the northbound lanes and side-swiped a semi-truck driven by 44-year-old Commie Spead, III. Russ's vehicle then continued in the northbound lanes where it collided with a second semi-truck driven by 37-year-old Deriel Malgon-Lemus, of Port Richey. Malagon-Lemus's truck was pushed off the roadway.
Russ died at the crash scene while Malagon-Lemus was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Spead was transported to the hospital as a precaution. The crash caused the roadway to be closed for approximately six hours while police investigated at the scene.
