Lakeland, FL (November 20, 2018) - A 63-year-old man from Lakeland was killed in a tragic crash on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The crash happened on Sunday, November 18th.
Lakeland police officials say that David Menary was operating a Hyundai Accent around 6:00 on MLK near the intersection with George Jenkins Boulevard. A 2007 Dodge Nitro, operated by 58-year-old Ismael Gonzalez, attempted to turn left in front of Menary's vehicle. Gonzalez's vehicle, however, collided with the Accent. The vehicles both came to rest in the intersection.
Several rescue units, including the Lakeland Police, Polk County Fire and Rescue, and Lakeland Fire Department were called to the crash scene. Menary later succumbed from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and there is no word at this time on whether police expect to issue any charges.
Our condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones of David Menary. We know how difficult it is to lose someone you love in a sudden, fatal traffic accident.
