According to initial reports, Isaac Quinones was riding his bicycle northbound on Alabama Road when he attempted to make a left turn. As Quinones made his turn, the side of his bicycle collided with a 2007 Chrysler 300 driven by 30-year-old Erwin Arias. Quinones was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Arias was not hurt in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating and has not issued any information on whether charges are expected. No further details are available at this time.
While bicycle riding can be a fun outdoor activity, it is not without dangers. Bicyclists face a great risk of death or serious bodily injury when they are involved in traffic collisions, especially when children are involved as we see in this crash. We hope for a speedy and complete recovery for Isaac Quinones.
