Madeira Beach, FL (August 31, 2019) - A jet ski rider was killed in a crash along the Intracoastal Waterway in Madeira Beach on Friday, August 30th. The incident took place around 4:50 p.m. near the Tom Stuart Causeway.
According to reports, 56-year-old Robert Krysztofowicz, of East Aurora, NY, was riding a Yamaha jet ski in the Waterway. At the same time, 35-year-old Jesse Mayer, of Redington Beach, FL, was driving a 37-foot boat in the same area. Mayer was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck the jet ski in a slow wake zone. The boat traveled over the jet ski. Krysztofowicz suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the Madeira Beach Marina.
Both speed and impairment appear to have contributed to the crash. Charges are pending at this time against Mayer and an investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the family of Robert Krysztofowicz during this difficult time.
