Marco Island, FL (January 2, 2020) - One person is dead following a crash in Marco Island on Thursday, January 2nd. The crash took place at the intersection of East Elkcam Circle and Collier Boulevard.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 63-year-old Wayne Plghoft was riding his scooter when he collided with a 2019 Ford that was driven by 57-year-old Bart Drake. Drake made a left turn into Ploghoft's path, causing the crash. Ploghoft suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. Drake was not hurt in the collision.
Troopers charged Drake with violating the right of way.

A car and a motorcycle were involved in a wrong-way crash on I-75 in today. The crash took place in the northbound lanes, near the junction with I-275. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to reports, a Lincoln Town Car was traveling the wrong way in the northbound lanes following a U-turn from the I-275 entrance ramp. The Lincoln then collided head-on with a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The Lincoln driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Neither of the victims has been identified at this time. Read more
