In Hobe Sound, an accident took place that caused severe injuries to a deputy when a person was trying to flee from Palm Beach County.
The accident caused a Martin County detective from the Sheriff’s Office to have to be flown to a West Palm Beach hospital. One man was taken into custody after a head-on collision that happened after a serious car chase out of Palm Beach County.
The deputies were chasing a 35-year-old man named Juan Carlos Carmenate after an armed carjacking event. The collision then happened south of Pratt Whitney Road.
Carmenate fired shots prior to striking an unmarked Martin County vehicle, according to the police. The force of the crash was so extreme that the deputy’s vehicle rolled over and did a full turn.
The deputy was injured and flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center with a head injury. The deputy was in shock but he is expected to make a full recovery. Carmenate previously sustained 10 years in prison after vehicular homicide and was released from prison two years ago.
