A driver ran a stop sign and hit the cruiser that the officer was in at the time. The damage was severe and the officer had to be cut from the vehicle. The officer was taken to a trauma center but he is expected to recover from his injuries.
Two others received minor injuries in the accident as well.

A 79-year-old pedestrian sustained critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Christmas Day. The incident took place on State Road 60 in the westbound lanes. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Nelson Morales was walking south, near a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a westbound vehicle near Valrico Road. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 79-year-old Daniel Kesler. Morales sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
