Miami, FL (July 2, 2018) – A speeding vehicle crashed into a tree off of Interstate 95 in Miami, which caused two fatalities and injuries in individuals. Police are still searching for another vehicle that was involved in the accident.
Two people were killed in an early morning crash that took place off of Interstate 95 involving a speeding vehicle. Officers had to shut down southbound lanes at the Southwest 25th Road exit. The exit has since reopened but authorities said traffic was being diverted onto Southwest Second Avenue.
Officer Michael Vega responded to the scene and claimed that somebody called 911 around 5:15 a.m. and reported that two vehicles were speeding in the southbound lanes of the interstate. They were identified as a Hyundai sedan and Ford Explorer.
Police found the sedan wedged between a guardrail and a tree on 25th Road and First Avenue. Vega said the driver and a backseat passenger died at the scene of the accident. Another backseat passenger was taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital’s trauma center with injuries.
The passenger is in critical condition but is expected to survive. Authorities are now looking for the pickup truck, which fled the scene, to find out how the accident took place.
