A pedestrian died in an accident due to the negligent actions of a DUI driver who struck her and then continued to drink beer after the crash took place. The man was identified as 37-year-old David Gray, who was driving home at the time when he realized a pedestrian was in the middle of the road. He believed that he hit her but did not stop to check because he was scared.
The pedestrian was 33-year-old Monica Ruiz-Patino.
Gray called the police and, while slurring, explained that he believed he hit someone and did not stay at the scene.
Patino was unresponsive at the scene and was taken to the hospital, where she died less than an hour later. Police came to Gray’s house and found him holding a can of beer. His Nissan Altima was in the driveway with many damages to it. After a blood sample, they determined that he had been drinking and driving.
