A motorcyclist and pedestrian both died in a U.S. 19 New Port Richey accident. Police do not believe that speed was a factor. At this time, they do not know if alcohol played a role in the accident.
The accident happened when a 41-year-old man from St. Petersburg was driving his motorcycle in the center lane of Palmetto Road. At the same time, an older man was crossing the street from west to east. He was not in a designated crosswalk at the time.
The pedestrian started walking into the northbound lanes in front of the bike, which is when the pedestrian was struck.
The names of the deceased parties have not yet been released. Police are attempting to contact the families following the crash.
Both parties died at the scene, which happened around 10:30 p.m. The investigation into the accident continues.
Florida ranked second overall & first per capita last year when it came to pedestrian accidents and fatalities.
