During the first half of 2017, Florida had the fifth highest rate of pedestrian deaths in the country, with 303 people killed in pedestrian accidents or 1.44 per 100,000 people. Pedestrians in our state are especially vulnerable to death or serious injury as approximately 25% of pedestrian crashes involve serious injury and 75% of these crashes will require at least a trip to the emergency room.
Following a pedestrian accident, there are several factors that must be considered, including whether the crash was avoidable by either the driver or the pedestrian, whether the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk or other area and whether the driver was negligent by virtue of impairment, distraction or violation of traffic law.
