Orange County, FL (June 19, 2018) – A Mims construction worker was seriously injured in an Orange County crash. The incident took place on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County. The construction worker was left in critical condition due to serious injuries. Another worker was killed in the incident that happened last night.
41-year-old Robert Wilson Jr. was operating a piece of construction equipment known as a man lift in a construction area in the center median of the turnpike. This happened right around 9:45 p.m.
While traveling southbound, a 62-year-old identified as Susan Bagaas drove her 2013 Ford Edge into the path of the lift. Bagaas’ vehicle struck the right side of the life, which ejected Wilson onto the roadway. The Ford then rotated clockwise and struck a concrete barrier on the left side.
When first responders arrived at the scene, Bagaas was pronounced dead due to severe injuries. Her passenger, 62-year-old Jennifer Annlorain Fletcher, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Wilson was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
At this time, the crash is still being investigated.
About 47% of work zone crashes alongside the highway in 2014 contained fatalities or injuries. In that year, there were about 1,845 work zone crashes across the country, many of which happened on state highways.
