Orlando, FL (March 8, 2019) - A 17-year-old motorcyclist died after her bike was struck by a Ford Explorer in Orlando on Thursday, March 7th.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Starr Elisala-LeBlanc was riding a 2018 Kawasaki on West Fairbanks Avenue, near the intersection with Edgewater Drive, around 7:15 p.m. That is when troopers report that a Ford Explorer, driven by 50-year-old Trina Minter, turned left into the path of Elisala-LeBlanc's motorcycle. She was pinned underneath the Explorer when rescue crews arrived at the scene and was taken to AdventHealth in Orlando, where she later died as a result of her injuries. Minter was not injured in the accident.
Police are still investigating and there is no word on whether charges will be issued in the crash.
Our deepest condolences are extended to the family of Starr Eliala-LeBlanc following this tragic motorcycle accident.
Motorcycles account for a large proportion of all fatal traffic accidents reported in Florida. Given the relative lack of protection offered by motorcycles, it is highly likely that a motorcycle crash could result in devastating and debilitating injuries for those involved.
