Orlando, FL (October 13, 2018) -A Florida school bus veered off the road and crashed through a fence in Orlando before diving into a backyard swimming pool in an accident on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Nine students and the driver were on board the bus at the time of the crash and no fatalities have been reported.
According to initial reports by Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Kim Montes, the bus driver swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle, but ultimately clipped it and was sent through the backyard of a neighboring home. The bus then came to a stop with its front end submerged in the pool.
The bus driver suffered minor injuries and the crash remain under investigating.
Bus accidents are becoming more common in Florida, increasing 16% from 2012 to 2015. These vehicles traditionally don’t have seat belts which leave their passengers susceptible to catastrophic injury and even death.
