Palm Bay, FL (June 22, 2018) – A 24-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in Palm Bay on Wednesday night. The accident involved an SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, who investigated the incident.
33-year-old Richard Bahre and the 24-year-old were riding their motorcycles northbound on Minton Road around 8:50 p.m. A 2015 SUV was being driven by 36-year-old Theresa Lupe of Melbourne. She attempted making a left turn onto another roadway and struck the motorcyclists when doing so.
The front of the motorcycle struck the right side of the SUV. Bahre, on his own motorcycle, crashed into the motorcycle and vehicle in front of him. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bahre and Lupe were both transported to the Holmes Regional Medical Center. They only sustained minor injuries. The accident was so severe, however, that it shut down traffic northbound and southbound on different parts of the roadway.
The identity of the motorcyclist was withheld while family members were being notified about the fatality. However, as of today, the motorcyclist’s name was released. He has been identified as 24-year-old Josh Cramer of Palm Bay.
Florida has the most motorcycle crash fatalities across the entire country. According to recent data, Florida has seen a 30% increase in these deaths in 2015, the highest known on record. In 2015, more than 5,000 people lost their lives in these crashes.
