Pasco County, FL - Man Dies in Collision with Garbage Truck

Pasco County, FL (September 4, 2018) - A man is dead after a collision with a garbage truck Monday.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that 65 year old Derek McCormick was driving south on Prospect Road when he came to a curve in the roadway. A Progressive Waste garbage truck, driven by 36 year old Christopher Santos was traveling north on Prospect at the same time. McCormick's vehicle veered into the northbound lanes and collided with the garbage truck.
After impact, the FHP says that both vehicles crashed into a guardrail and caught fire. McCormick died from his injuries. There is no word on whether the garbage truck driver was hurt.
A fatal crash takes places approximately every three hours in Florida. Fatal crashes are extremely difficult for friends and family members, who are suddenly forced to cope with the unexpected and tragic loss of a loved one.
