Pasco County, FL (July 3, 2018) – A Pasco County teenager with a learner’s permit was involved in an accident when he went through a stop sign and promptly struck a home. The teen with the permit was cited when he ran through the stop sign without stopping, causing the accident. The Florida Highway Patrol investigated.
The 17-year-old teenager was cited for reckless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, not wearing a seat belt, and a learner’s permit violation. He received minor injuries and nobody else was injured in the accident.
The accident happened around 12:45 p.m. when the teenager was traveling on Candlewick Lane in Pasco County. Troopers claim that the teen was driving a Ford Explorer and driving eastbound around 25 miles per hour. He did not stop at the stop sign and continued through the intersection, into the front yard of a home on Candlewick. He eventually crashed into the home.
The teen told the police that he took the Explorer without his mother’s permission He claimed that the brakes locked up, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the home. He then, however, admitted that he might have pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes. Police said that the brakes were fully functional.
