Pinellas County, FL (July 4, 2018) – An FHP Trooper suffered minor injuries in an accident in Pinellas County. The Trooper from the Florida Highway Patrol was injured in a hit-and-run crash that took place on US 19.
The Deputy was identified as 49-year-old Brian Sudbrink of Largo, who was taken to the Florida Hospital Palm Harbor with minor injuries. One other person suffered minor injuries as well, who was identified as 56-year-old James Bregon.
The accident took place around 6:13 a.m. north of Highlands Boulevard. A Crown Victoria was stopped in traffic when it changed lanes abruptly in front of a Ford Ranger driven by 61-year-old Samuel Barker. Barer then veered to the right to avoid being hit. He lost control of his vehicle and hit an unoccupied Dodge Charger owned by FHP. It then continued onward and struck an occupied vehicle owned by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Sudbrink was conducting a traffic stop at the time. Bregon was forced to the ground when he was acting as backup at the scene.
The vehicle that caused the accident fled the scene and police have not yet been able to identify the driver.
