This morning, a Pinellas County rollover crash took the life of one on a very busy stretch of Florida highway. The accident happened on East Lake Road around 7 a.m. when a lot of traffic was traveling back and forth on the highway.
The woman who lost her life in the accident was identified as 32-year-old Erin Hodges of Holiday. At the time, she was driving her 2000 Ford Explorer. She was traveling in the outside southbound lane when she suddenly became involved in the accident and drove onto the shoulder of the road on Sandy Pointe Drive. When she tried to steer the vehicle back onto the roadway, she overturned several times off the side of the road.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the southbound lanes.
Hodges was immediately taken to the hospital with severe injuries but she was pronounced dead while there. Police investigated for almost two hours before clearing the scene.
In 2017, Florida led the country in the most car accidents throughout the U.S. They saw a steady 12% increase in deadly accidents that year.
