Polk City, FL (July 3, 2021) - Two cars were involved in a fatal car accident near Polk City on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred just after 3:00 p.m. on Commonwealth Avenue near Evergreen Boulevard.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. According to deputies, 39-year-old Nicolas Roldan, of Miami Beach, was driving a Toyota Highlander southbound on Commonwealth. At the same time, 59-year-old Angel Cano was driving a 2021 Ford Ecosport northbound on the same street. For unknown reasons, Roldan crossed the center line and collided head-on with Cano's vehicle. Cano died at the crash scene while his passenger, 49-year-old Geisha Machado Carranza, was taken to a hospital with a broken leg and internal injuries. She is currently listed in fair condition. Roldan was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police are still investigating. No further details are available at this time and it is not clear if any charges are expected.
