According to the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, a van was traveling eastbound on Sample Road when the driver became drowsy and rear-ended another vehicle. One of the vehicles involved, a white SUV, crossed over the median and veered off the roadway. The SUV collided with the front of a vacant building, narrowly missing a crowded restaurant by a few feet.
Three people were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is no further information available at this time.
Florida experiences, on average, 400,000 reportable crashes each year. While many collisions happen on the roadway, sometimes bystanders and others near a crash site are exposed to the risks of the crash. Fortunately, in this case, it appears as though all of the injured victims will make a complete recovery.
