Sarasota, FL (December 11, 2019) - The victim of a fatal, multi-car crash on US 301 has been identified by authorities. Police say that 40-year-old Rosalinda Santana lost her life in the crash which took place on Tuesday, December 10th near 63rd Avenue East.
Authorities report that 38-year-old Nathan Taylor was driving a 2001 Ford van near 63rd Avenue when traffic slowed in front of him. Taylor failed to slow down and struck the rear-end of a 1997 Chevy 1500, driven by Santana. Santana's car then propelled forward and collided with a 2010 Ford Mustang. The Mustang then struck a 2019 Dodge Ram in a chain reaction crash. Santana died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. A passenger in her vehicle, 44-year-old Juanita Rosario was taken to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol arrived on the scene to investigate the crash. Taylor was issued a citation for careless driving. An investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information should call FHP at 239-938-1800.
Deadly accidents happen each day across Florida's streets and highway. Rear-end collisions can be just as fatal as any other type of crashes, including head-on and t-bone style crashes. Although rear-end collisions are traditionally thought of as being more minor in nature, the fact is that they can be extremely serious and even deadly when they occur at higher speeds and when drivers fail to slow down in time to avoid a high impact crash.
Our thoughts are with the family of Rosalinda Santana and we hope that Juanita Rosario makes a complete recovery.
