An incident left two Sarasota officers injured when a driver tried to hit them with his vehicle. The accident took place after officers were patrolling the Janie’s Garden apartment complex in Sarasota.
When the officers approached the vehicle, which they believed was suspicious, the vehicle started to accelerate. The officers felt like they were in danger and drew their firearms. One officer’s foot, Officer Brandon Vermillion, was run over in the accident. He hit the driver with his gun, 18-year-old Jeremy Trebbles Jr.
Jonathan Torres, the other officer, was also injured.
Nobody is sure why Trebbles tired to injure the officers. He has now been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on no bond.
