Today, a worker in Orange County was picking up cones on State Road 417 when he was suddenly struck by a vehicle. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. when workers were in the southbound lanes near Lee Vista Boulevard.
All of a sudden, 28-year-old Joshua Mann started switching lanes. Mann veered toward the crews of men and struck a 42-year-old named Shawn Grant. The construction worker saw him coming and started to run toward the guardrail, but didn’t have enough time to get away.
Grant was then thrown over the side of the guardrail and went down an embankment. The driver in the accident jumped into action. He got out of his vehicle, ran down the embankment, and gave first aid to the pedestrian until first responders were able to get to the scene.
Grant was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Mann was ticketed for failure to maintain a single lane. He did not have any injuries.
