St. Petersburg, FL (January 30, 2019) - A 40-year-old woman died and another person sustained serious injuries in a chain-reaction style crash that took place in St. Petersburg on Monday, January 28th.
Officers say that 47-year-old David Yancey was driving a 2009 Victoria Express taxi southbound on 49th Street. Heather Scozarro, 40, was a passenger in the taxi. The taxi rear-ended a 2018 Chevy Tahoe driven by 78-year-old John McVey at an intersection. McVey was stopped for a red light at the time of impact. McVey's vehicle was propelled forward, ultimately causing a crash with four other cars.
Scozzaro was taken to Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg where she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Yancey was also taken to Bayfront Health and he was listed in serious condition. Three others, including McVey, suffered minor injuries.
Police are still investigating the accident but believe that alcohol may have played a role. Charges are currently pending.
