Tampa, FL (October 21, 2018) - A wrong-way crash on the Selmon Expressway left one man dead in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 21st.
Shortly after midnight, a Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling near South MacDill Avenue and West Hawthorne Road. The truck was traveling without headlights and ran through several traffic signals. The truck later made its way onto the Selmon Expressway and began traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The truck then collided with a vehicle near the exit ramp with Platt Street. The driver of the other vehicle, 68-year-old Bamnet Narongchai died from injuries he sustained in the collision. The truck driver, identified as 27-year-old Stephen Paleveda was eventually apprehended and placed into custody. Police say that alcohol was a factor in the crash and that charges are pending.
We are saddened to hear of this tragic head-on crash on the Selmon Expressway. There is a fatal accident in Florida approximately every 8 hours. Many fatal collisions involve impairment or distraction and it appears that impairment may have played a role in this accident.
Our thoughts are with the family of Bamnet Narongchai. His next of kin will possess the right to bring a wrongful death claim as a result of this tragedy.
