Tampa, FL (February 25, 2019) - A Good Samaritan and retired firefighter was killed in a tragic crash along I-75 in Tampa on Sunday, February 24th.
59-year-old Wesley Weysham, Jr. came upon a crash near the US-301 exit around 4:30 a.m. Police say that a 31-year-old woman in a Buick LeSabre collided with a truck stopped in the left lane. The truck driver, George Edwards Evans, was suspected of being under the influence. Weysham got out of his vehicle and assisted Evans out of his truck to provide medical care on the scene.
As Weysham was in the process of helping Evans, he was struck by a 24-year-old driving a Toyota Camry, traveling southbound on I-75. The Camry driver collided with the back of the truck, which was then pushed forward into Weysham. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charges are pending in the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
